The Department of Physics, FMIPA, University of Indonesia, has a long history and tradition in the world of education and research since it was established through the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia No. 108.094 dated December 21, 1960. Until 2021, the Department of Physics has opened 6 (six) Study Programs, namely the Bachelor of Physics Study Program, Master of Physics Study Program, Master of Materials Science Study Program, Master of Medical Physics Study Program, Doctoral Study Program in Physics, and Doctoral Study Program in Materials Science. In addition to occupying a 4-story building in the FMIPA UI Depok Campus environment, the Department of Physics also holds lectures at the UI Salemba Campus.

Visi Departemen Fisika “menjadi institusi unggulan dalam bidang fisika dan aplikasinya, yang mampu berperan pada tingkat global”. Sedangkan misi yang diemban adalah (i) melaksanakan kegiatan riset yang mampu memberikan kontribusi bagi pengembangan ilmu fisika dan aplikasinya di tingkat global, (ii) melaksanakan kegiatan pendidikan fisika dan aplikasinya untuk menghasilkan lulusan yang mampu bersaing secara global, (iii) melaksanakan kegiatan pengabdian pada masyarakat melalui pelayanan pendidikan, pemaparan, maupun pemanfaatan hasil-hasil riset fisika dan aplikasinya.

The Undergraduate Physics Study Program, Master of Physics Study Program, Master of Materials Science Study Program, and Doctoral Program in Materials Science have obtained A accreditation from the National Accreditation Board - Higher Education (BAN-PT). The Undergraduate Physics Study Program has been assessed at the ASEAN level through the ASEAN University Network - Quality Assurance (AUN-QA). In 2021, the Undergraduate Physics Study Program is in preparation for ASIIN international accreditation.

The Department of Physics supports the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka Program of the Ministry of Education and Culture by opening online courses or Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) that can be followed by students from within and outside the country. Currently, the Department of Physics has 43 permanent and non-permanent lecturers, with a composition of 5 Professors, 33 with Doctoral degrees and 5 with Masters degrees. https://physics.ui.ac.id/?lang=id
